The client’s emphasis for their design was for a low impact facade to the street frontage, and while one speaks of the importance of ‘first impressions’, a ‘lasting impression’ is certainly created upon entering this home. The entry hall opens into the principal Kitchen/Dining/Living space on the upper level with its expansive glass and 180-degree sea views over Port Phillip Bay. One of the many features of this home is the central staircase. Maintaining the modern tradition of open-plan living, especially where views are to be maximised, this steel-framed, open-tread staircase acts as a divider of the spaces, zoning off the Kitchen/Dining in a subtle manner from the Living, whilst allowing light-filled, flowing spaces and family connection to endure. One could go into great detail about the extensive use and quality of such items as double glazed, commercial section aluminium windows, Tasmanian oak flooring, Yarrabee Castlemaine stone, imported Kitchen appliances, and tap-wear, however, this is what we present as our standard quality for such projects.
