A project for a young family that was conceived of as a combination of the humble, honest qualities of a worker’s shed with the comfort and benefits of a contemporary home. Site, economy, durability and the need for low maintenance all accounted for the use of the selected materials, predominantly of Colorbond and timber. The raw simple styling of the house is unashamedly modest, it is quite easy to entirely miss the house as you drive by the property. Its low profile follows the slope of the terrain whilst its dark nature embraces the tonal values of the surrounding environment.
The arrangement and the composition of two pavilions work towards focusing views out towards the rear of the site and capture the playful moments of the passing Puffing Billy steam train. Each pavilion is rationally divided, with one containing the living and parent zone, whilst the other, separated by the entry, contains the kid’s zone and the garage and storage requirements.
